Process Engineer Construction Facilities
Tesla is looking for a Senior Process Engineer to work on large scale ground-up Engineering-Procurement-Construction project that requires exceptional talent. The product portfolio is expanding with never-built-before production lines, and requirements demand cell production volume at a scale which was once thought to be impossible to reach. In this role, you will be asked to be the primary process engineering lead for the design and engineering efforts to support construction of infrastructure development, from concept level to production.
What You’ll Do
- Lead all process design and concept evaluations and decisions, leading to completion of construction drawings for permit and construction execution. Includes wet (chemicals, wastewater, pure water) and dry (compressed air, gases) systems.
- Lead front-end process designs including the following deliverables:
- Scope development
- PFDs, P&IDs and 3D pipe design development, including pressure drop analysis.
- Specification development including equipment, piping and valve selection and sizing, material compatibility analysis, etc.
- Relief valve selection, calculations and documentation
- Sequence of operations/control philosophy development
- HAZOP/PHA development and facilitation
- Participate in on-field construction and commissioning activities by serving as the point of contact for technical questions and real-time issue resolution.
- Manage multiple projects throughout planning, design, bid, and construction phases
- Drive support staff, internal and 3rd-party engineers
- Interface with external Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) firms during bid and project execution phases as needed to ensure that designs and specifications meet our Engineering Standards.
- Make technical assumptions, think independently to complete assigned work, and draw conclusions based on engineering judgement.
- Effectively and proactively communicate project needs, changes, and status to internal and external team members
- Develop and mentor less experienced engineering staff
- Present design concepts and progress at project milestones (30%, 60%, 90%, IFC) design reviews to stakeholders and multi-discipline teams
- Able to develop quantity take offs and assist with cost estimating for projects in short time frames
- Complete field work independently or with the design team
- Apply engineering fundamentals and a broad set of process engineering tools to solve technical problems and create novel detailed designs for a wide range of mechanical and process system
- Responsible for developing process design packages for permitting and construction
- Review and develop designs that are cost effective, constructable, code compliant while meeting Tesla’s quality and schedule requirements
- Work with various manufacturing, construction, and facilities stakeholders to understand end user needs and deliver results that meet the collective teams needs
- Must be able to prioritize and manage heavy workload on multiple projects to ensure high quality and productivity
- Resolving design issues creatively and thoroughly coordinating design with other disciplines
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical or Mechanical, or equivalent experience. Master's Degree preferred
- Minimum 10 of years Chemical and/or Process Systems design experience within a high-tech industry such as semiconductor, specialty chemical, solar, battery, etc. A combination of experience with an owner operator and an EPC firm is highly desired.
- Registered and in good standing as a Professional Engineer (PE) with active NCEES record and ability to acquire State PE license for Nevada
- Working knowledge of OSHA, ASME and the building codes.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Navisworks, Bluebeam, Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, and Pipe-Flo.
- Advanced skills in Excel, SQL, or other analytical tools for data mining and analysis
- Work efficiently and productively in independent and team settings.
- Demonstrated talent for implementing process flow improvements.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, or similar 2D CAD software
