Tesla

Tesla’s Mobile Robotics team designs and builds humanoid bi-pedal robots (Tesla Bot) to automate repetitive tasks and wheeled robots for manufacturing and autonomous logistics. The team joins mechanical, electrical, controls, software, and manufacturing engineering disciplines in a highly collaborative team.

This Engineer will architect the cutting-edge electronic system for our robots, design printed circuit boards and own them from concept to production. Experience in designing high volume circuit boards and/or robotic electronics is ideal. We love when candidates show real-world projects with electronics they’ve designed.

Responsibilities

  • Develop electrical cabinets for use with industrial robotics, including custom PCB layout, harness layout, and off-the-shelf part selection
  • Start to finish ownership of projects: specification, architecture, circuit design, simulation, schematic, layout supervision, prototype, validation, and manufacturing support
  • Rapidly iterate as architecture evolves
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team of mechanical, electrical, and software engineers
  • Thoroughly document design requirements, calculations, power budgets, validation results

Requirements

  • Bachelors in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional abilities
  • Experience developing electronic systems for robots
  • Programming ability (Python, embedded C/C++)
  • 2+ years of circuit board design and/or industrial cabinet design experience
  • Competent in PCB CAD software (Altium preferred)
  • Understanding of analog & digital circuits (motor control, MOSFETs, op-amps, switching regulators, gate drivers, microcontrollers, SPI, I2C, etc.)
  • Proficiency with lab equipment and troubleshooting
  • Communication protocols (CAN, Ethernet, EtherCAT)
  • Examples of end-to-end ownership of electronics design projects
